The dreaded topic, TikTok… DUN DUN DUN!! 😱

Ok, all jokes aside, I have clients ask me all the time, “Is TikTok really necessary?” or “I want to post on TikTok, but where do I start?” Both questions can be answered here.

Is TikTok actually beneficial to your business? Well, that depends. Who is your target audience? Let’s spit some facts really quick.

  • The largest age group on TikTok is ages 25 – 34, but ages 18 – 34 make up roughly 75% of users.
  • Males make up about 56% of users, making the other 44% females.

If your target audience is young adults, then this app should probably be added to your social media strategy. TikTok is a great way to showcase your business in a more personal way. Give your brand a personality, and help people connect with you on a deeper level.

I want to post on TikTok, but where do I start? Another great question. Adding another social platform to your already booked posting calendar can seem daunting. Are you biting off more than you can chew?

Here are five tips to getting started on TikTok, so you don’t feel in over your head:

  1. TikTok rewards “Real”, not “Polished.” Think of TikTok as a FaceTime with your bestie. Talk to your audience as you would to a friend, don’t worry about fancy lighting, a well-written script, or even a professional camera. People will connect with the raw and real moments.
  2. The first 2-3 seconds matter most. Get your hook in FAST. Start with a question, or present a common problem. Don’t hold out on the good stuff; lead with it.
  3. Use trends to your advantage, but don’t rely on them. Trending audios is a great way to get in someone’s FYP who may not know who you are. BUT don’t only rely on trending dances or sounds to reach your target audience.
  4. Consistency is KEY πŸ”‘. I preach this in almost everything I talk about marketing-related. Keeping a consistent posting schedule will keep you in the algorithm. Consistency > constantly. Aim for about 3-4x a week.
  5. Interact with your audience. Turn comments into videos, pin comments, reply to people asking you questions – build a community!

The marketing scene is constantly changing, but short-form video content seems to be around for the long haul. Tap into that market and reach an all new audience!!
